Nova Siri Genetics, a company based in Italy specialized in the research and experimentation of new varieties of strawberries and berries, has closed its participation in the 9th International Congress of Red Fruits, a meeting organised by Freshuelva with the aim of analysing the current situation of the industry and its future challenges.
Once again, Nova Siri Geneticsas a partner company of Freshuelva, has participated in this event with a stand in which it has highlighted the results obtained by its strawberry varieties in the South of Spain during the recently finished season, with sales of 50 million plants, despite the fact that the area dedicated to strawberries in the region has been reduced by 5% this season.
In this sense, during the Congress, the licensed work team has developed an extensive programme of contacts with strawberry producing companies, with technical managers, nurserymen and with the rest of the agents involved in this activity in order to be able to analyse the good results being achieved by the early strawberry varieties of this company and to evaluate the production needs for the new 2024-2025 season.
After analysing the information provided at these meetings by the companies and the requests from the Spanish nurseries that produce Nova Siri Geneticsstrawberry varieties, the company foresees an additional 10-15% growth in the number of plants to be used in the Huelva area for the next season. In particular, NSG has noted a growing interest in the varieties NSG 207 – Gioelita® and NSG 203 – Marimbella® and in two new very promising selections for the area.
“This interest on the part of nurserymen", explains Nicola Tufaro, the company's breeder, "confirms the validity of our strawberry variety offer, based on quality, earliness and rusticity. All this, makes our varieties one of the most valid options for growers when choosing early strawberry varieties to satisfy market demand from November and December to June".
NSG's licensed nurserymen have been creating the nurseries in the Castilla y León area since March. To date, the development of the nurseries has been satisfactory, thanks also to the favourable climatic conditions that have allowed the plants to grow and the stolons to emerge. In fact, the climate of this area in the north of Spain makes it possible to obtain plants of excellent quality, both pots and fresh plants. The distribution of the pot plants in the region of Huelva and the Mediterranean basin will begin in September, while that of the fresh plants will start at the beginning of October.
